Forefoot Pain
Pain in the front part of the foot (the forefoot) is often called metatarsalgia.  This area of the foot is very sensitive and contains many structures which can become damaged from trauma or overuse.  Swelling in the area can be focused on certain parts bones, muscles, tendons and ligaments.

There are many causes of forefoot pain, however there a some general things which often contribute to problems in this area.

- Excessive foot pronation.  If the foot tips in and the arch falls lower than normal this could be a contributing factor.

- Inappropriate footwear.  The footwear we use should be geared towards the activity we are doing.  i.e walking trainers / boots for walking, running trainers for running etc.  Also wearing high heeled shoes for too long can cause massive compressional strain in the forefoot.

- There are some excellent products which can help with pain of any kind.

- If you are unsure and want some more specific help and advice you may wish to consider a video consultation appointment with a Podiatrist.
